Permanent Makeup FAQ Ventura
The word Permanent makeup, a misnomer, refers to the fact that the daily application of makeup is no longer required. The pigments are not permanent, but rather last anywhere from 1 – 5 years. Duration is dependent on the hand tool or machine used, pigment brand, skin, life style and quality of after care. The equipment is manual (microblade or Softap) or reciprocating rotary.
Lifestyle refers to the amount of sun exposure, use of chemical peels or other exfoliants like Retin A (specifically Retin A .05% on prescription), whether sun protection creams are used and iron deficiency.
The initial procedure generally takes approximately 2 hours. During this time, we establish client records, take reference photos, discuss the desired design and color, perform the procedure, and review aftercare instructions. Follow-up or color refresher sessions typically require less time—closer to 45–60 minutes.
Creating brows, bold eyeliner or full lip shading, areola pigmentation, scar camouflage or scalp enhancement can sometimes be a two stage process. This includes a consultation and initial procedure followed by a perfecting session 6–12 weeks later, if needed.
Proper aftercare and attention to the treated area significantly reduce the chances of needing additional sessions. Occasionally, full lip procedures or scar camouflage treatments may require two touch-ups. The first touch-up is $50, and the second is $135.
To protect their investment, clients are encouraged to refresh the color every couple of years.
Most people experience some minor discomfort. Pain tolerance varies by individual, and some may feel more sensitivity than others. To minimize discomfort, we offer a range of methods including industry-specific topical anesthetics.
Sensitivity to discomfort is often heightened during menstruation or due to lack of sleep so clients are encouraged to book their appointment with the foregoing in mind. For client comfort, a topical numbing cream is applied prior to and during the procedure.
Some individuals take Tylenol prior to the appointment to relax them.
If proper sterilization and disinfection guidelines are met, permanent cosmetics should be completely safe. These guidelines include, but are not limited to the following.
